A winery with soul. From cypress trees to SpƤtburgunder sunsets, Weingut Mussler is where wine meets memory - and where the Pfalz feels like Tuscany.

Weingut Mussler – Where Tuscany Meets the Pfalz šŸŒæšŸ·
Weingut Mussler, Bissersheim

Nestled in the small village of Bissersheim, just off the Pfälzer Weinstraße, sits a winery that captures more than great wine - it captures a feeling.

This is Weingut Mussler.
A place where heritage, hospitality, and heart come together. Where every corner tells a story, every sip invites you to slow down, and the sunsets seem just a little more golden.

A Sense of Place

The moment you arrive, it doesn’t feel like you're in Germany anymore.

The long rows of cypress trees, the landscaped garden in front of the estate, the Tuscan sunlight that seems to stretch across the vineyards - it’s not hard to imagine you’ve landed in Chianti.

But this is the Pfalz. And that’s exactly the charm.

Founded in 1831, this family-run estate is now in its fourth generation. And under the guidance of Sabine Mussler and cellar master Steffen Mickley, it’s both honoring tradition and looking to the future.

The Legacy of Tobias Mussler

Tobias Mussler took over the estate in 1999, infusing it with fresh ideas, modern style, and immense personal warmth. He built a place where wine became more than a product - it became an experience.

Tragically, Tobias passed away in 2016. But his vision lives on - in the wines, in the Vinothek, and in every decision the team makes.

In the podcast "Weiterleben" by Mannheimer Morgen, Sabine speaks about Tobias with deep honesty and love. About his drive, his restlessness, and his joy. About packing a full life into just 40 years.

ā€žAlles was er irgendwie erreichen und erleben wollte, hat er in diese Zeitspanne gepackt, in diese 40 Jahre.ā€œ

At Weingut Mussler, you feel that story in every detail.
This isn’t just a winery. It’s a place with a soul.

55 Hectares of Emotion in a Bottle

With 55 hectares of vineyards, Mussler is sizable - but never impersonal.

The wines are expressive and layered. Elegant, but never distant. There’s depth, but also approachability - a sign of winemaking done with both care and confidence.

Standouts include:

  • 🟄 Tuvijah Hommage – A rich, structured red cuvĆ©e with bold fruit and quiet intensity.
  • šŸ’ Kirschgarten SpƤtburgunder – Delicate, earthy, and complex—a Pinot Noir that whispers and lingers.

Each wine feels thoughtfully made, but also… joyful. These are wines meant to be shared.

The Vinothek – Where Wine Becomes Story

The Vinothek Tobias Mussler isn’t just a tasting room—it’s a tribute.

Named after Tobias, it’s a space full of light, laughter, and lovely surprises. The staff are welcoming, the tastings are generous, and the layout invites you to linger - whether you're discovering something new or returning to a favorite vintage.

You can taste, chat, ask questions, or simply take a moment to enjoy a view that stretches across the vines of Goldberg, Mussler’s home vineyard.

The Gutsausschank – A Local Treasure

And then… there’s the Gutsausschank.

This isn’t your average wine tavern. It’s one of those rare places where food, wine, music, and community come together perfectly.

Open during the spring and autumn seasons, the Gutsausschank transforms the estate into a festival of flavors—Fridays from 16:00, Sundays from 12:00. Locals and visitors gather in the garden, under the trees, wine in hand and sun on skin.

The kitchen rotates between two culinary powerhouses:

  • šŸ½ Mama Margit, who brings PfƤlzer comfort food straight from the heart
  • šŸ• Di Bello, a joyful culinary team from neighboring Großkarlbach, with Italian soul and irresistible flavors

The result? A menu that reads like a love letter to the region - with a passport stamped in Italy.

Di Bello – La Dolce Vita in der Pfalz

If you know, you know.

Di Bello, located in Großkarlbach, is one of the worst-kept secrets and most beloved gems in the Pfalz. It’s part Italian deli, part gelateria, part wine bar, and 100% passion.

Started by a family with Italian roots, Di Bello serves:

  • šŸØ Authentic gelato made fresh and by hand
  • 🄪 Panini, salumi, cheeses, antipasti
  • šŸ· A smart selection of Italian and regional wines
  • ā˜• The kind of espresso you’ll remember all day

During the Gutsausschank season, Di Bello brings their flair and flavor to Mussler, creating a kind of Pfalz - Italia fusion magic.

Imagine sipping Riesling while eating handmade gelato.
Imagine pairing SpƤtburgunder with a slice of Parma ham and rosemary focaccia.

Now stop imagining - because it’s all real.

Tobi’s Tip: Plan to Stay

Don’t just come for a glass. Come for the moment.

Linger in the garden. Try both chefs. Taste more than one wine. Let the cypress trees and the PfƤlzer warmth slow you down.

If you visit Mussler, do it like the locals do - with friends, without rush, and with room for dessert.

šŸ· Tobi’s Mussler Favorites – Two Wines, Two Moods

Of all the wines I’ve tasted at Mussler, there are two that keep calling me back - both for very different reasons. One’s bold and grounded, the other bright and surprising. But both? Unforgettable.

🟄 2022 ROTWEIN CUVƉE S ā€œBissersheimā€ trocken

Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon | 14.0 % vol. | 0,75 L
šŸ“¦ Ortswein – aged 12 months in barrel

This wine is one of the estate’s quiet powerhouses. A rich red blend that balances structure and softness, with enough complexity to impress but enough ease to enjoy without overthinking it.

Expect a nose of blackcurrant, forest berries, and a touch of cedar spice. The oak is beautifully integrated after a full year in barrel, giving the wine a polished, round character without overwhelming the fruit.

Smooth, elegant, and confident - this is a wine that holds the room without raising its voice.

šŸ„‚ 2024 BLANC DE NOIR trocken

SpƤtburgunder & Merlot | 12.5 % vol. | 0,75 L
šŸ“¦ Gebietswein

ā€œBlanc de Noirā€ means ā€œwhite from blackā€ - a white wine made from dark-skinned grapes, in this case SpƤtburgunder and Merlot. The result? Subtle, stylish, and just a little bit unexpected.

Delicate notes of peach and violet on the nose, followed by blood orange and raspberry on the palate. It has a fine acidity, a lovely texture, and those faint, slow ā€œtearsā€ on the glass that hint at the Merlot underneath.

It’s the kind of wine you want on a sunny terrace, with a view, a breeze, and time to do absolutely nothing.

Whether you're in the mood for something deep and contemplative or light and playful, these two bottles show the range - and heart - of what Mussler does best.

šŸŽ¶ Wine & Music Moment

The Gutsausschank at sunset. A full table, a full glass, and someone playing music from a speaker tucked into a tree.

That’s a ā€œVolareā€ by Dean Martin moment.
Carefree. Classic. Just a little cinematic.

And honestly? It doesn’t get much better than that.
